Shimano DH-3N72 Hub Dynamo Tests

E-mail Print PDF
Before building my new DH-3N72 into my wheel, I did some tests to find out how its output voltage varied with speed and load.  I mounted the dynamo in a rig and drove it with a cordless electric drill. The dynamo output was connected to a load resistor and oscilloscope.  For light loads a potential divider was needed to get the output voltage down to a level the scope could display. The screenshots below show the outputs at various combinations of speed and Rload, R1, R2 values.  A summary is at the bottom. 1. Rload not fitted, R1 = 1M, R2 = 10K, f=285Hz   2 1. Rload not fitted, R1 = 1M, R2 = 10K, f = 82Hz
