City Life, by Jenny Toller
I like to rise when the sun she rises,
Early in the morning.
And I like to hear them small birds sing, As I
Smooth the end of me 4-by-2.
And hurrah for the life of a carpenter,
And to ramble in B&Q.
1. In spring I grip with my big pliers
But odd how my hand it never tires
Even with those great big chunky wires
Then I go ramble in B&Q.
2. In summer I do some lighter jobs
So I organise my tins of screws and knobs
If I drop ‘em on me foot it makes it throb
So I go ramble in B&Q
3. In winter when I need a thrill
I stay at home and charge my drill
When the light goes off and I've had my fill
I go ramble in B&Q.
4. I like to tell the Morris dancers
To clash their sticks and keep their lines
I say I'd like to hear those bells a-ring
Or I'll go ramble in B&Q
5. On Sunday morning I like a squeeze
And to make sweet music designed to please
But if I push too hard it makes me wheeze
So I go ramble in B&Q
6. Oh Kath she is my darling gay
And she blooms like the flowers every day
And I love her more than my Black and Decker workmate
And more than rambling in B&Q
